Stress and the Brain
Stress, pressure, fatigue, poor diet, excessive alcohol and drugs damage neural connections between the brain’s prefrontal cortex and the rest of the brain. The brain bypasses its “higher,” more evolved, rational frontal executive circuits and it starts using more primitive stimulus/response pathways. Under chronic stress, we tend toward rigid thinking, reactive behavior, distracted attention, worry, anxiety, and low self-esteem.
The stress (fight or flight) response releases adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol, which leads to faster heart rate, increased cardiac output and narrower arteries. In our chronically stressed world, this translates into fatigue, high blood pressure, eating and sleeping disorders, a weakened immune system and a long list of stress related ailments. Not good, you say.
Effortless Meditation™ provides immediate relief. EM™ is an antidote for the stress response, and deep rest is they key. Effortless Meditation provides us with levels of rest deeper than what we experience in sleep, and it occurs within minutes of beginning to meditate.
Everything that happens during the stress response begins to reverse during Effortless Meditation™. During EM™ the mind becomes calm, our blood pressure normalizes, muscles relax, anxiety and stress melt away. The reason that we are meditating, however, is not to have a perfect meditation; our goals are to have a great life after meditation. Effortless Meditation prepares us to have a happy, healthy life.
